According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in May 2026 fell by 9% compared to the same month last year. Total net production reached 1,135 GWh, while output was 6% higher than in April 2026, indicating a short-term monthly recovery despite the annual decline.
The structure of generation showed mixed trends across technologies. Production in thermal power plants increased by 2% year-on-year, reaching 73 GWh, while hydropower output dropped sharply by 35% to 321 GWh. In contrast, electricity generation from the nuclear power plant Krško remained stable at 517 GWh, and production from wind and solar sources surged by 34% to 224 GWh, reflecting continued growth in renewables.
On the trade side, Slovenia imported 869 GWh of electricity, marking a 9% increase compared to May 2025, while exports decreased by 9% to 907 GWh. This points to a slightly higher reliance on imports despite stable domestic nuclear output.
Electricity consumption trends were mixed. Household demand fell by 5% month-on-month to 241 GWh, while commercial consumption rose by 4% to 569 GWh compared to April. Overall supply of energy commodities also declined across most categories, including significant drops in kerosene (-22%), natural gas (-18%), and hard coal (-12%), while only coke supply recorded an increase of 9%. Compared to May 2025, most energy products also showed declines, with kerosene, coal, petroleum products, gas, and petrol all registering lower supply levels.
