According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in December 2024 decreased by 4% compared to the same month in 2023. In December 2024, total net electricity generation in Slovenia reached 1,275 GWh, which is 5% lower than the previous month.
In terms of production by energy source, thermal power plants saw a notable increase, with production rising by 48% compared to December 2023. However, hydropower plant production fell sharply by 45%. The output from the Krško nuclear power plant was 1% higher, while the production from wind and solar power plants increased significantly by 58%.
Slovenia’s electricity imports rose by 6% year-on-year, reaching 951 GWh in December 2024, while exports decreased by 7%, totaling 974 GWh. Household electricity consumption surged by 30% compared to November 2024, reaching 398 GWh, while commercial consumption dropped by 3%, totaling 605 GWh.
In terms of energy commodities, supply generally decreased in December 2024, with a notable rise in natural gas supply (up 16%). Kerosene, LPG, and brown coal supplies all dropped by around 10–15%. There was also a significant decrease in coke (46%) and hard coal (43%) supply, alongside reductions in heating oil (26%), other petroleum products (21%), petrol (16%), and diesel (8%).
Compared to December 2023, however, there was a substantial increase in the supply of lignite and brown coal (up 353%), hard coal (up 49%), other petroleum products (up 34%), coke (up 19%), and natural gas (up 7%).
