Slovenian electricity consumption rose more than 8% year on year in August, keeping demand ahead of the 2026 system plan and increasing the likelihood that annual consumption will exceed the original 11 TWh forecast.
Transmission-network consumption reached 789.9 GWh during August.
Distribution companies accounted for 703.7 GWh, up 11.5% year on year and 8.6% above forecast, with hot weather and stronger air-conditioning demand contributing to the increase.
Large industrial consumers directly connected to the transmission grid showed a different trend. Their consumption fell to 53.7 GWh, around 7% below August 2025 and more than 29% below forecast.
Electricity used for pumping at the Avče pumped-storage plant dropped by more than 20% to 32.4 GWh.
In January-August, Slovenian transmission-system consumption exceeded 7,229 GWh, up 3.3% year on year and around 0.8% above plan.
The figures show that Slovenia’s 2026 demand growth is being driven mainly by distribution-connected consumption rather than large industrial users, putting full-year electricity demand on course to exceed the original system forecast.
