Total electricity consumption in North Macedonia in December 2022 amounted to 655,903 MWh, natural gas consumption amounted to 32.74 million cubic meters, coal consumption reached 458,704 tons, while the consumption of petroleum products stood at 199,467 tons.
According to the data from State Statistical Office, 97.7 % of the consumed electricity in December was covered by domestic production, while 99.9 % of the total coal consumption was used for electricity production.
Total net production of electricity in Macedonia in December 2022 stood at 602,106 MWh, which is by 5.9 % higher compared to the same month last year. 331,878 MWh or 55.1 % was produced at thermal power plants (+ 32.3 % compared to December 2021), 156,214 MWh or 17.7 % was produced at hydropower plants (+ 18.1 %), 106,281 MWh or 27.7 % in CHP plants (- 36.1 %) and 6,388 MWh or 1.06 % was produced by Bogdanci wind farm.
Production at biogas power plants was reduced to zero, while solar power plants produced 1,345 MWh of electricity in December.
Total net production of electricity in Macedonia in 2022 stood at 5,414,999 MWh, which is 4.2 % higher compared to the previous year. 2,970,414 MWh or 54.9 % was produced at thermal power plants (+ 43.9 % compared to 2021), 1,340,212 MWh or 24.7 % was produced at hydropower plants (- 7.3 %), 931,717 MWh or 17.2 % in CHP plants (- 38.1 %) and 107,656 MWh or 1.99 % was produced by Bogdanci wind farm (+ 4.2 %).
North Macedonia imported 1,935,726 MWh of electricity in 2022, which is 38.2 % less compared to 2021, while electricity exports rose by 45.7 % to 523,201 MWh.
