Momentum is gradually building behind the Vertical Gas Corridor after a commercial agreement paved the way for US LNG to reach southeastern Europe sooner than anticipated. The development follows a supply-and-sales deal struck by the Atlantic SEE LNG Trade consortium, enabling the first physical deliveries and speeding up progress on the broader initiative.
The consortium, controlled by Aktor Group (60%) with DEPA Trade holding the remaining 40%, signed its first LNG sales contract with Ukraine’s Naftogaz Group, with BP supplying the US LNG.
The inaugural cargo is set to arrive at the Revythoussa LNG terminal in March and will be forwarded to Ukraine within weeks. The gas will travel north via Route 1, marking the first practical use of infrastructure aligned with the Vertical Gas Corridor vision. Consortium officials note that the deal represents a shift from planning to execution and highlights Greece’s growing role as a regional LNG gateway for eastern and southeastern Europe.
