The planned construction of waste water treatment plant at TENT B at Ušce will be a pioneering step not only for the largest power plant in the region but for PE “Electric Power Industry of Serbia“ as well. Although it is a technology that is fairly unknown to thermoenergetical engineers,another phase within a successful program of ecological modernization of existing plants between EPS and TENT will be realized by its implementation.It’s not an origami project but the real story based on solid grounds which is proven by the recently signed IPA agreement between European Union and Serbia,by which considerable grant funds were provided within which a certain part(EUR 15 million)is intended for realization of the construction of this plant.
According to Zoran Stojanovic, Director of TENT B, the Conceptual design for waste water treatment plant is done by Energoprojekt-hidroinženjering, based on the study that was previously done by Energoprojekt-Entel where all waste waters occuring in plants of EPS were thoroughly examined.
In the future plant all kinds of waste water that occur in the production process will be treated, that doesn’t only refer to waters contaminated by oil, fuel oil, all sorts of dirt but to rain water and foul water as well and also dirty water caused by the regular washing of certain parts for ash transport, skew bridges etc.- said Mr. Zoran Stojanovic.
However, it’s difficult,he said, to determine precisely the structure and the quantity of waste water generated during the production process and apart from it. Total amount of waste water to be treated is, acoording to estimates, 934,935 m3 per year. Concerning the water fouled by coal, 790 m3 of water drained into the perimeter channel in case of rain, for 2 hours, should be treated in the plant. Treatment of oily water would be 1140 m3/day in the rainy period and 895 m3/day during the drought, while the waste water treatment caused by fgd would be 15 m3 /h per unit.
It is about discontinuos waters, whose amount depends on various circumstances and impacts, starting from the seasons, number of units in operation,then the waste water coming from different levels and varying degree and type of contamination.Basically all the waste water, after the treatment in the plant and before discharging into the Sava River, must be at least as good as the quality of its recipient, i.e. on the level of second category water.
Conceptual design predicts mechanical treatment of water contaminated with fine particles of coal after which they would be used for mixing with ash,thus transported to the ash dump- says Mr. Stojanovic. And when it comes to water from the ash dump, a lot has been done in TENT to strike the balance and eliminate excess water and its return to the plant,i.e.,during winter it is collected on active cassette 2 in order to be used again after the winter through sprinkler facilities and without discharging into the Vukicevica River and Grabovac Channel, and thus in the Sava River.
Preparation of tender documentation for publication of public tender for selection of the company that will implement this project is being underway. The contract for the preparation of this documentation has been signed with the consulting company Exergija from Greece, which by the end of September this year should have a complete version of the required documentation, analysis and information on the value of works and necessary equipment. According to some rough estimates, launching of the tender should be expected later this year,and completion of the plant and its commissioning till the end of 2014.
The waste water treatment plant is expected to be highly automated and to create space for the recruitment of a number of people. Its construction will also be an incentive to other members of EPS to join such activities in the foreseeable future and also to other contaminants outside the energy sector to give their own contribution to the active protection and preservation of the environment by implementing such projects- said Mr. Zoran Stojanovic.
