During the week of January 26, electricity demand rose in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The United Kingdom recorded the largest increase at 3.7%, following two weeks of declining demand. The Italian and German markets saw the smallest increases, 0.1% and 0.3% respectively, continuing their upward trend for a fifth consecutive week. France experienced its second consecutive weekly increase, with demand growing by 1.4%.
In contrast, the Iberian markets and Belgium registered decreases in demand. Belgium experienced the smallest decline at 0.8%, marking its third consecutive week of reductions. Spain and Portugal reversed their previous upward trends, with drops of 2.3% and 7.5% respectively, following three consecutive weeks of growth.
Average temperatures in the last week of January rose across most of the analyzed markets compared to the prior week. Portugal recorded the largest increase at 2.2 °C, while France saw the smallest change at 0.1 °C. Italy experienced a 0.2 °C rise, Germany 1.6 °C, and Spain 2.0 °C. Conversely, the United Kingdom and Belgium registered decreases in average temperatures of 1.3 °C and 2.0 °C respectively.
For the first week of February, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting anticipates that electricity demand will increase in the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Spain. Conversely, demand is expected to decline in Germany, Portugal, Italy, and France, AleaSoft reports.
