China’s Windey Energy is considering direct equity investment in Fintel Energia Group’s 854 MW Maestrale Ring wind project in Serbia, expanding its role from turbine supplier to prospective project owner.
The companies’ new strategic agreement covers possible Windey investment in Maestrale Ring and other Fintel assets, including around 110 MW already under construction.
The partnership builds on an earlier turbine-supply agreement and also includes potential modular AI data centres near Fintel substations.
The equity component could bring additional capital to one of Serbia’s largest renewable pipelines while deepening Chinese participation beyond equipment supply.
At 854 MW, Maestrale Ring would materially increase Serbia’s wind fleet if fully developed and add to balancing and transmission requirements as renewable penetration rises.
The proposed data-centre cooperation could also provide local electricity demand near new generation and grid infrastructure, reducing reliance on pure merchant power sales.
No investment amount, equity percentage or final transaction structure has been disclosed.
The agreement nevertheless marks a shift in Windey’s Serbian strategy from selling turbines towards sharing development and electricity-market risk.
