In the first quarter, according to the data of the Federal Office of Statistics, 392 gigawatt-hours of electricity were imported.
The Federation BiH imported more than twice bigger quantities of electricity in the first quarter of this year than in the same period of 2015.
Due to the bad hydrological situation at the beginning of year, because of which the production in hydro power plants failed, the Federation was forced to import increased quantities of electricity.
In the first quarter, according to the data of the Federal Office of Statistics, 392 gigawatt-hours of electricity were imported, contrary to the same period last year when 187 GWh had been imported. Simultaneously, the electricity export was also decreased and, in the first three months, it amounted to 587 GWh with respect to 842 GWh a year before. Otherwise, gross electricity production in the Federation BiH was in decline in the first quarter of 2016 and it amounted to 2,424 gigawatt-hours, compared to 2.744 gigawatt hours in the same period of the previous year. Only 907 gigawatt-hours were produced in hydro power plants, contrary to 1,302 GWh in the same period of the previous year.
In addition to the increased import, the lack of production in hydro power plants was partially offset by higher production in thermal power plants, which produced 1.517 GWh of electricity in the first three months of this year with respect to 1.442 GWh in the same period of 2015, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
