The Government of North Macedonia decided to declare a 30-days state of emergency in the energy sector due to a shortage in the supply of thermal energy used for district heating system in the capital of Skopje, as well as shortage in the supply of electricity. The decision will come into effect on 1 September.
The statement from the Government said that a commission in charge of monitoring the situation with the supply of electricity and heating energy will analyze and assess the conditions on the electricity markets as of 1 September and will propose further measures.
Last November, the Government also declared a 30-day state of emergency due to difficulties in electricity supply caused by production capacity outages and a lack of additional sources for electricity generation, which was later extended until early June 2022.
