Albanian Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure said that the local company AGA-Solar has submitted an application for obtaining a license for the construction of a solar power plant in Darzeze e Re near Fier in southwestern Albania.
The statement from the Ministry said that the future solar power plant will have an installed capacity of up to 150 MW, without providing any further detail regarding the project.
In March, French renewables company Voltalia has won a tender for the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant in northwestern Albania, near the port of Durres. Voltalia submitted the lowest bid of 0.02989 euros/kWh, while the second shortlisted bidder, Chinese Universal Energy Co offered a price of 0.046 euros/kWh. A total of 45 companies participated in the tender. The ceiling price was set at 55 euros/MWh.
The power plant will be built in the Spitalle municipality and will cover the area of 120 hectares. Voltalia is obliged to sell 70 % of produced electricity to electricity distribution system operator OSHEE under the 15-year contract, while the remainder of produced electricity could be sold on the free market. The construction of the plant is expected to start in the summer.
Last August, the Albanian Government signed a contract for the construction, operation and maintenance of 140 MW solar power plant in Karavasta with Voltalia, winner of a tender launched in January same year. The company is obliged to sell half the electricity produced at the solar power plant to Albanian electricity distribution company OSHEE at the price of 24.89 euros/MWh for a period of 15 years, less than half the price ceiling of 55 euros, while the remaining half will be sold in the market. The concession agreement is valid for 30 years. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure said that Voltalia is expected to start the construction of the plant in November 2020. The cost of the project is estimated to some 100 million euros. However, the construction of the plant has not yet started.
