Albanian State Inspectorate of Environment, Forestry and Water (ISHMP) announced that it has imposed a fine worth about 7,400 euros on oil company Albpetrol based on the high level of environmental pollution in Gorisht, part of Vlora district.
The Inspectorate ordered the immediate suspension of all company’s activities in the affected area until situation normalizes. According to the inspectors, oil extraction in this area has generated large scale damage to the environment. Director of ISHMP Ilinden Maze said that state police and municipal police were informed over this decision and will now monitor its implementation.
Environmental pollution in this area was denounced by local inhabitants, who complained over soil and water pollution.
