According to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in the first half of 2017 amounted to 3,730 GWh, which is 25.9 % less compared to the same period last year.
The country’s electricity exports dropped by 72 % in the first six months of the year to 360.8 GWh, while electricity exports increased by 39.2 % in the same period, reaching 1,080 GWh. The entire volume of Albania’s electricity was generated by hydropower plants, with 67.4 % of electricity produced by state controlled HPPs.
Electricity network losses dropped by 1.6 in the first six months of 2017 to 1,020.6 GWh. Distribution losses accounted for 61.7 % of the total network losses, while the balance is attributed to transmission losses. Within distribution losses, technical losses amounted to 629.3 GWh, while the rest were due to non-technical reasons, mostly electricity theft.
