A solar power plant was commissioned by Oil refinery in Bosanski Brod. This SPP is at the location within the refinery.
The plant consists of four smaller facilities, with a total of 2,724 solar panels, with estimated electricity generation of over 1,000 MWh per year. The refinery will use produced electricity for its own consumption, thus achieving annual savings of some 50,000 euros. The cost of this 1 MW solar project is around 1 million euros and its was completed ahead of planned deadline, which was the end of 2020.
The construction of the plant started in late September. It was initially announced in February, when the management of the refinery expressed interest in diversification, by investing in the gasification of the refinery, expansion of the retail fuel network, renewable energy projects and gas-fired electricity generation. Oil refinery in Bosanski Brod, as well as the refinery in Modrica and Nestro Petrol in Banja Luka are part of Optima Group, majority owned by NeftegazInKor, a subsidiary of the Russian company Zarubezhneft. Oil refinery in Bosanski Brod is out of operation since January 2019 and it is expected to restart production in 2021.
