Gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to 1,105 GWh in May, compared to 1,290 GWh in the same month last year, according to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 14.5 %, thermal power plants with 82.4 % and solar and wind power with 3.1 %. Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 159 GWh in May 2020, which is 73.7 % less than in the same month in 2019. Thermal production amounted to 824 GWh, which is 39.9 % more than in May last year. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 34 GWh. Electricity imports rose to 247 GWh in May from last year’s 211 GWh, while exports rose slightly to 456 GWh (430 GWh in May 2019). Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 541,000 tons in May 2020, which is 43.7 % more compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal decreased by 5.6 % and amounted to 509,000 tons.
