In March 2021 gross electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to 1,699 GWh, compared to 1,529 GWh in the same month last year, according to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 43.3 %, thermal power plants with 53.9 % and solar and wind power plants with 2.8 %. Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 726 GWh in March 2021, which is 31.3 % more than in the same month in 2020. Thermal production amounted to 828 GWh, which is 2.7 % less than last March. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 47 GWh. Electricity imports rose by 52 % to 260 GWh in March from last year’s 171 GWh, while exports increased by 18.2 % to 800 GWh (677 GWh in March 2020). Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 530,000 tons in March 2021, which is 17.1 % less compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal decreased by 2.3 % and amounted to 549,000 tons. Natural gas imports in March 2021 amounted to 4.42 million cubic meters, significantly less compared to a year before (23.34 million cubic meters).
