Bulgarian caretaker Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stoyanov and Azeri Minister of Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met to discuss opportunities for enhancing the cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Stoyanov said that Bulgaria is interested in increasing supplies from Azerbaijan after the completion of the Southern Gas Corridor. Although additional supplies through the Corridor will be possible in 2025 at the earliest, Bulgaria needs to lay the foundations for its real diversification now. Shahbazov confirmed that Bulgaria is among Azerbaijan’s priority partners.
He also said that he is convinced that Bulgaria will have enough natural gas to meet its demand in the winter months, adding that the Government is negotiating supply from several sources, including Russian Gazprom.
According to him, the former Government has made a mistake, agreeing cargoes of liquefied natural gas without providing access to LNG unloading slots in Greece or Turkey.
