According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 14 August 2022 has increased by 15.98 % compared to 2021 and reached 32.63 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 0.16 % reaching a total of 24.18 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 8.45 TWh so far in 2022, 111.7 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 27.44 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 23.5 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 23 % to 1,005.6 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 15.64 % to 1,458.3 GWh.
