According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 and 27 February 2022 has increased by 22.69 % compared to 2021 and reached 9.55 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 2.87 % reaching a total of 7.4 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 2.14 TWh GWh so far in 2022, 267.5 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 8.22 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 32.65 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 14.3 % to 248.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 20.04 % to 339 GWh.
