In Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 4 July 2021 production of electricity has increased by 10.1 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 23.08 TWh , according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 3.74 % reaching a total of 20.01 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 3.07 TWh so far in 2021, 83.13 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 17.97 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 4.44 % more than in 2020. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 8.95 % to 671.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 5.04 % to 1,012.4 GWh.
