According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period
between 1 and 16 January 2022 has increased by 27.27 % compared to 2021 and reached 2.59 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 3.49 % reaching a total of 1.96 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 627.9 GWh so far in 2022, 350 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 2.2 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 32.37 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 43.2 % to 71 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 43.3 % to 87.2 GWh.
