According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 14 November 2021 has increased by 15.64 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 40.27 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 4.74 % reaching a total of 33.19 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 7.08 TWh so far in 2021, 125.7 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 32.93 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 13.74 % more than in 2020.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 5.73 % to 1,100.1 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 1.83 % to 1,710.9 GWh.
