According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 15 August 2021 has increased by 10.91 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 28.25 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 4.77 % reaching a total of 24.23 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 4.02 TWh so far in 2021, 71.34 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 22.33 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 6.49 % more than in 2020.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 6.83 % to 819.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 2.98 % to 1,265.3 GWh.
