According to the data published by Bulgarian elec- tricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 17 April 2022 has increased by 19.26 % compared to 2021 and reached 17.21 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 1.93 % reaching a total of 13.07 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 4.14 TWh GWh so far in 2022, 157 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 14.72 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 27.95 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 25.35 % to 504.6 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 21.2 % to 693.3 GWh.
