European Commission said that EUR 2.17 billion was paid on Wednesday for the renewal of energy networks in nine EU countries, including Bulgaria. The funds for Bulgaria were in the amount of EUR 197 million, the announcement said.
The funds will help lower-income countries meet their 2030 environmental goals. So far, the EU has provided EUR 9.68 billion to support countries in the energy transition. A total of EUR 4.66 billion was allocated for this year.
In Bulgaria, financed projects are aimed at improving the electricity distribution network, accelerating electrification in transport, for energy storage, cleaner energy production, and decentralization of energy consumption and production.
