Electricity production in Bulgaria declined by an annual 16.5% to 1,628 GWh in the first two weeks of 2024, according to Electricity System Operator (ESO) data.
In the same period, power consumption grew by 5.2% to 1,737 GWh.
Bulgaria recorded a power trade deficit of 108.4 GWh compared to a surplus of 299.1 GWh a year earlier.
The volume of renewable energy in the transmission network increased by 39.7% to 83.3 GWh, while the volume of renewable energy in the distribution system increased by 27.4% to 84.3 GWh.
At the same time, the output of hydropower plants rose by 10.2% to 93.1 GWh.
