The participation of renewable energy sources in the transmission network increased by 51% for the period January 1 – August 27, 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, according to data published by the Electricity System Operator (ESO). From the beginning of the year until August 27, the share of RES in the transmission network was reported in the amount of 1,602,138 megawatt hours, while in 2022, this share was 1,061,442 megawatt hours. The participation of RES in the distribution network also increased, by 8% in the compared period.
Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 22% for the period January 1-August 27, 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. From the beginning of the year to August 27, 26,737,730 megawatt hours were produced, while for the same period of the past year, the electricity produced was 34,338,772 megawatt hours.
From January 1 to August 27, electricity consumption in the country decreased by 5%. For this period of the year, 24,075,933 megawatt hours were consumed, while in the same period last year, consumption was 25,398,900 megawatt hours.
The balance (export-import) of electricity decreased by 70%, the ESO report shows.
The participation of base plants in the country’s energy balance from the beginning of the year to August 27 compared to this period in 2022 also decreased by 27%.
