According to Enel’s business plan published last week, the company started construction on 19 MW of PV installations in Romania at the end of February. Overall, the Italy-based power company plans to expand its Romanian photovoltaic portfolio to 55 MW by 2017.
Meanwhile, in Italy, Enel has said it intends to start building 21 MW of new PV projects.
No further project details were released.
Enel Green Power is a subsidiary of the Rome-based Enel Group. Its photovoltaic portfolio includes 91 MW of installed capacity in Italy, and 31 MW in Greece, 13 MW in Spain and 26 MW in the U.S. In 2012, the company produced 183 GWh of solar power.
Despite these figures, most of Enel’s RES installed and newly planned power comes from wind. In comparison, Enel’s 2012 net production of wind power was 8985 GWh.
Among Enel Green Power’s 2013-2017 key strategic considerations are the increase of geographical and technological diversification in order to mitigate risks, the emerging markets as a focus of growth and the self-funded growth and central capital allocation.
