Greek electricity distribution system operator DEDDIE received more than 3,900 applications for rooftop solar subsidies from households and farmers, according to unofficial sources.
The subsidy program, announced in March, is expected to start soon, with households scrambling to submit an application as the program is envisaged on the “first-come, first-served” basis.
Due to the increased interest, the relevant Ministries are considering to increase the available funds, from 200 million euros, to at least 230 million euros in order to accommodate as many applicants as possible.
If the increase is realized, the number of households and farmers receiving subsidies for the installation of solar panels will increase from 30,000 to 33,000- 35,000, while total installed capacity of the subsidized solar panels will increase from 150 to 170 MW.
