The Greek transmission network operator IPTO has offered since August of this year the conditions for connection to the network of new renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 3 GW. Since August of this year, a priority system has been applied for the ranking of operator applications submitted as early as the beginning of 2021.
It is estimated that IPTO has already covered 44% of the grid capacity available to priority green energy producers, meaning that only 3 GW is still available for future projects.
The situation with older renewable energy projects that have not yet been completed despite previously receiving connection requirements should be addressed to prevent grid saturation, officials said, echoing a message delivered by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at September’s Thessaloniki International Fair.
Officials estimate that the maximum grid capacity that will be available by 2030 will reach 28 GW.
