Greek Ministry of Energy plans to stop granting connection license extensions for renewable energy projects which have not made any licensing progress over considerable periods in an effort to free up some connection capacity for the upcoming, more promising projects.
The exact criterions for cancelling projects are still not known, but the Ministry will take care not to terminate RES projects which remained stagnant for quite some time due to reasons beyond the control of the investors. For example, some projects have been delayed indefinitely due to legal issues, and such projects will not be terminated.
Greek electricity transmission system operator ADMIE has so far granted connection permits for some 11 GW in RES projects. It is estimated that among these projects, around 3 GW is not making any progress with no apparent reason for stagnation.
