Recent surge in gas-fired projects in Greece is due to anticipated establishment of a permanent CAT mechanism and country’s decarbonization efforts.
Elpedison has launched an international tender for procurement of mechanical equipment for its 826 MW gas-fired power plant project in Thessaloniki. With ongoing environmental permit procedure expected to be completed soon, Elpedision is expected to reach the final investment decision on the project.
Last week, Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) has granted an operational licenses for five gas-fired power plant projects. These include 665 MW project in Komotini, developed by state-controlled Public Power Corporation (PPC), 826 MW power plant in Viotia, developed by Mytilineos Group and expected to be commissioned by the end of the year, 665 MW power plant developed by GEK Terna, also in Komotini, 826 MW project developed by Elpedison near Thessaloniki and 830 MW gas-fired power plant near Alexandroupoli, a project developed by Damco, a part of Copelouzos Group.
