According to data published by the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH), the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption reached 13.9 % in 2020.
This represents a 1.3 % increase compared to 2019 and is slightly above Hungary’s RES target for 2020 (13 %).
In 2020, primary energy production decreased by 2 %. This is a result of the 5.7 % drop in energy production from fossil fuels and 1.5 % drop in nuclear energy production. On the other hand renewable energy production increased by 1.4 % in 2020. Among renewable energy, solar energy production soared by 59.3 % compared to 2019.
