Total electricity consumption in North Macedonia in December 2021 amounted to 852,895 MWh, natural gas consumption amounted to 50.7 million cubic meters, coal consumption reached 481,802 tons, while the consumption of petroleum products stood at 106,882 tons.
According to the data from State Statistical Office, 69.7 % of the consumed electricity in December was covered by domestic production, while 98 % of the total coal consumption was used for electricity production.
Total net production of electricity in Macedonia in December 2021 stood at 561,308 MWh, which is by 20.5 % higher compared to the same month last year. 221,207 MWh or 39.4 % was produced at thermal power plants (- 2 % compared to December 2020), 132,268 MWh or 23.6 % was produced at hydropower plants (+ 93.8 %), 188,918 MWh or 33.7 % in CHP plants (+ 18.5 %) and 13,234 MWh or 2.36 % was produced by Bogdanci wind farm.
Production at biogas power plants reached 4,644 MWh, while solar power plants produced 1,039 MWh of electricity in December.
Total net production of electricity in Macedonia in 2021 stood at 5,194,882 MWh, which is 3.2 % higher compared to the previous year. 2,037,456 MWh or 39.2 % was produced at thermal power plants (- 16.9 % compared to 2020), 1,528,749 MWh or 27.8 % was produced at hydropower plants (+ 13.7 %), 1,112,203 MWh or 29.4 % in CHP plants (+ 37.5 %) and 103,336 MWh or 1.99 % was produced by Bogdanci wind farm (- 11.6 %).
North Macedonia imported 2,836,830 MWh of electricity in 2021, which is 4.3 % less compared to 2020, while electricity exports dropped by 43.8 % to 359,103 MWh.
