By the end of 2015 the electricity will flow in Italy by a cable worth 758 MEUR. The construction of the submarine power cable that will connect Montenegro and Italy will begin in late January next year, said Italian Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco in Montenegro .
“The undersea cable is one of the nine major investments amounting to 3.8 billion euros, which should be completed in the next five years. Hopefully that works will commence as soon as possible. I do not know the exact date, but I’m pretty sure that the construction could begin for a month. Montenegro, upon completion of the project, will become a major regional energy stakeholder” said Monaco.
According to the agreement of the governments of Montenegro and Italy, undersea most modern technology cable HVDC 2 X 500 MW should start working by end of 2015. Cable, worth about 758 MEUR, will be placed between Lastva Grbaljska-Pescara, and will be built by the Italian national company Terna in cooperation with the Montenegrin transmission system. According to the contract, CGES will build substation in Lastva and a transmission line to Pljevlje, and Terna will set cable between Lastva-Pescara.
