The representative of Montenegrin electricity market operator COTEE Vojislav Srdanovic said that the production of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES) is of great significance for the country.
Srdanovic recalled that Montenegro decided to cede a system of subsidies for electricity produced from renewable sources and applied the model of guaranteed prices, purchase and the exemption of RES producers from paying the transmission system balancing costs. He added that Montenegro has to continue to encourage the production of electricity from renewable sources in order to achieve absolute energy independence. Srdanovic also reminded that the country aims to achieve a 33 % share of RES in total electricity consumption by 2020.
The representative of Montenegrin electricity distribution system operator CEDIS Pavle Grbovic said that it is expected that by 2021 Montenegro will have 650 MW of installed capacity in renewable sources which have the status of privileged producers. He added that the construction of a large number of hydropower plants is expected in the following period and the production at Mozura wind farm should start next year. Trial production at recently completed Krnovo wind farms has already started last week.
