Mostly due to very favorable hydrology in the first three months of 2021, Montenegrin hydropower plant Perucica produced a record 557 GWh of electricity, which is 67.2 % more than planned for this period, while good production trend continued in the following months as well.
In 2019, power utility EPCG and German KfW Bank have signed a loan agreement worth 33 million euros. The proceeds of the loan will be used for the modernization of HPP Perucica. In the next two year, six generators of HPP Perucica will be revitalized, which will increase its safety and reliability , thus extending the operational life of one of oldest Montenegrin large-scale HPP, commissioned in 1961. In June same year, EPCG signed the revitalization contract with Sever-Nikcom-Koncar GIM consortium. Revitalization works, worth 3 million euros, will mostly be carried out during regular overhauls of the plant and are expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
EPCG is also in talks with the bank regarding the installation of 58.5 MW unit 8 at HPP Perucica, a project worth 24 million euros. Currently, HPP Perucica has power output of 307 MW and average annual electricity generation of around 1,400 GWh.
