Averaged daily temperature increased for over six degrees and reached the 19thnotch on the Celsius scale at the beginning of the second half of October. That’s how the Indian summer, with the days 6.5 degrees warmer than the average for this time of year in the last 120 years, helped to consume about 85.5 million kWh in Serbiaexcluding the southern province, which is about ten million less than the balanced. Daily consumption was about 13 million kWh in Kosovo and Metohija.
The reduced consumption of the electricity in industry contributed, in its own way, to the total stability of electric power situation, especially the final overhauls of the two TPPNT blocks, which entered into the regular production. This heavy, the warmest summer, since the temperature has been recorded in this region, remains to be remembered. The drought went awry as well. The flow of the Drina River rose to 180 m3/s in the mid of this month and moved away significantly from the biological minimum at which it has been since the beginning of this summer (between 50 and 40 m3/s). The Danube has grown moderately and reached 3.150 m3/s. However, the flows of the Danube and Drina’s watershed are significantly under the balanced for this period. In order to the run-of-river hydropower plants could produce as much as it is necessary for October, the 540m3of water lacks each second. However, the performance of this Hydro Power Plants is reduced by one-fifth of the planned production in the first half of this month, but from the mid October it came to “only” 13.5 % of underperformance. All thepumped-storage Hydro Power Plants, including the Hydro Power Plant “Piva”, have produced more than 50% lessthan planned amounts in third week of October.
JovicaVranić, the Director of the Department for energy planning and management in the EPS Directorate of Trade, stated that the Thermal Power Plants which use coal (excluding the TPP “Kosovo“) were at the planned level in the mid of the month because the large termal power blocks, which lacked while being repaired, had been returned to the network. The overhauls and reduced inflows cut down the performance of the available capacities of the EPS for about 9.2 % in the first half of October. During these 15 days, the production of the run-of-river Hydro Power Plants was 23.7% under the balance quantities, of the pumped-storage Hydro Power Plants in balance, and regarding the termal power plants that use coal, they produced 8.8% under the plan. As Mr. Vranić said, the unfavorable hydrological conditions and the lack of the planned production of the electricity from the coal had been overcome owing to the significantly less consumption than balanced.
“First 15 days of October were considerably warmer than average. In fact, the mid daily temperature was 16.5 degrees, which is four degrees warmer than the average for this time of year in the last 120 years. With this weather conditions and reduced industry consumption, we managed to overcome the consequences of drought even in October by using the available capacities of the EPS. Therefore, it should be noted that the implementation of the balanced obligations are safe until the end of this month since the meteorological forecasts are favorable. We do not expect that the daily consumption will exceed 85 million kWh since the series of warm days had been announced. In addition, the reliance will remain on the thermal sector, because there is no heavy rain foreseen which would improve the production of the hydro sector”, said Mr. Vranić.
He stated that the consumption of the electricity in the Republic of Serbia was 1.4 billion kWh in the first half of October, which was 15.7% less than the balance quantities. There is no consumption in Kosovo and Metohija, the underproduction percentage drops to the 15.5%, but that does not essentially disturb the parameters of harmonization of the balance quantities. With the production near 1.3 billion kWh (9.2 less than balance), the EPS succeeded, in this situation, to provide the supplying security for all the consumers without procurement of the electricity in the market.
Certain amounts, which will secure the regular supply of the consumers, will be available in November. In that way, the drought consequences, with which we enter the winter and which clearly show the partial energy content in the lake reservoirs of the Hydro Power Plants, will be mitigated, Vranić said.
