Romania, Azomures is taking steps to resume operations in early May

Romanian fertilizer producer Azomures, the largest single natural gas consumer in the country, is taking steps to resume operations in early May, after the four-month cessation of activities by the high gas prices last winter.

However, the plant will still operate at reduced capacity, because the price of natural gas is still high. As a matter of fact, gas prices have increased since Azomures decided to stop operations last December, from 90-120 euros/ MWh to almost EUR 345 euros/MWh in early March.

Azomures expects support from the Romanian Government after the European Commission established a legal framework under which the EU member states can support companies essential to agriculture.
