The first two and a half months of works on the construction of 400 kV Cernavoda-Stalpu double-circuit overhead transmission line a total of 45 poles has been erected, with an average of 1.5 poles built per day, said Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica.
The works at the 400 kV Cernavoda-Stalpu line started in March 2020, with the completion deadline on March 2022. The investment of 59 million euros aims to consolidate the cross section between the west coast of the Black Sea (eastern Romania) and the rest of the transmission system. At the same time, it will contribute to the strengthening of the Romanian electricity transmission network, to the increase of the interconnection capacity between Romania and Bulgaria and to the integration of the wind energy in the Dobrogea region.
In 2018, Transelectrica received a first tranche of 2.2 million euros of a 27 million euros grant from the European Commission (EC) for the construction of a 400 kV transmission line between Cernavoda and Stalpu. The new 400 kV line will have a length of some 160 kilometers and the project also includes the construction of 400 kV Stalpu substation and the expansion of the existing Cernavoda and Gura Ialomitei substations. The total value of the grant approved by the EC via the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) amounts to 27 million euros. This amount covers 50 % of the investment, while the rest of the amount will be covered through the company’s own financial sources.
