Coal-based electricity producer Energy Complex (EC) Hunedoara will provide system technological services to electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica at a value of at least 400 MW until the end of the year in order to maintain the safety level of the national electricity system, according to a draft Government Emergency Ordinance.
Thus, the previous obligation of EC Hunedoara to Transelectrica will be extended to establish the monthly capacity corresponding to the system technological services, representing a slow tertiary reserve, until 31 December 2020.
In late 2019, the Government adopted an Emergency Ordinance according to which, EC Hunedoara had the obligation to provide technological system services to Transelectrica in the capacity of at least 400 MW until 2020.
EC Hunedoara operates coalmines in Valea Jiului (Lupeni, Lonea, Vulcan and Livezeni) and two coal-fired thermal power plants (Mintia and Paroseni), currently generates some 5 % of the total Romanian electricity production. In late 2019, the company filed for insolvency, but it was rejected.
