The National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) said that the number of prosumers con- nected to electricity distribution network in Romania has reached 23,785 at the end of August this year, with expectations that it will surpass 30,000 by the end of the year.

The statement from the regulator said that, in order to reach or exceed the renewable energy target assumed by Romania, the country has adopted a regulatory framework to stimulate prosumers of energy from renewable sources to produce, consume, store and sell their excess production of electricity.

ANRE President Dumitru Chirita said that the number of prosumers connected to the electricity distribution network has increased since the end of 2019, from 303 to 23,785 on 31 August, adding that such an increase was possible due to changes and additions brought quickly to ANRE orders, the provisions of which come in support of prosumers.

According to ANRE data, the largest installed prosumer capacity is found in Iflov county (24 MW, 2,200 consumers), followed by Timis (12 MW, 1,200 consumers), Arad (10 MW, 1,000 consum- ers), Bucharest (9 MW, 770 consumers), Dolj (8 MW, 870 consumers), Harghita (7.2 MW, 1,000 consumers), and Arges, Constanta, Murea and Bi- hor, each with 6.4-6.7 MW of installed capacity.
