Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu said that Petrotel oil refinery in Ploiesti, operated by Russian Lukoil, has been processing crude oil of non-Russian origin since 5 December, when the EU’s embargo on Russian crude oil came into force.
Minister Popescu said that Lukoil assured the Ministry that it has alternative sources of crude oil and petroleum products and that there will be no problems in Romania.
Petromidia, operated by Rompetrol group, is the largest refinery in Romania, with the capacity of 6 million tons, followed by OMV Petrom’s Petrobrazi refinery with 3.8 million tons capacity and Lukoil’s Petrotel with 3.6 million tons of annual capacity.
