The members of the City Council of Vranje in southern Serbia, have approved the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the Chinese company Betec Resources, which deals in geothermal energy source explorations.
Deputy Mayor Igor Andonov said that exploration will take about 40 days and it is almost certain that Vranjska Banja and Serbia will get its first geothermal power plant. He added that Betec Resources has been recommended by the Serbian Government as a reputable company. The future power plant will have installed capacity of 20 MW.
The exploration area covers about 150 square kilometers. Executive Director of Betec Resources Zhao Jinshui said that the project itself will be conducted in accordance to environmental protection regulations.
