Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said that the energy and mining sector has the most space for new investments and that the largest world companies, including the US Bechtel, are interested in the construction of new generation fcapacities.
Minister Mihajlovic said that Bechtel is the first US company which is taking part in the realization of an infrastructure project, namely, the Morava Corridor. It is also interested in the construction of hydropower plant Djerdap 3 on the Danube, as well as a large wind farm that could be one of the biggest ones in Europe. These projects are worth around 2 billion euros, but the talks are still at the beginning. However, what’s important is that Bechtel is interested in investing in Serbian energy sector, the Minister concluded.
Project company Energoprojekt originally developed the idea for construction of peak pump storage HPP on Danube back in 1973. According to original plans, the HPP should be built in four phases. During the first phase, the HPP should have power output of 600 MW and annual electricity production should stand at 2 TWh. The outputs during the next three phases should be 1,200 MW/3.15TWh, 1,800 MW/5.2 TWh, and 2,400 MW/7.6 TWh, respectively.
