Electric Power of Serbia (EPS) plans to invest in wind and solar power plants in Serbia, announced Chairman of the Board of EPS Aca Markovic. EPS plans to build solar and wind power plants in Kostolac, EPS has identified this area as an important and established company for renewable sources within the company, which has the task to monitor the performance of existing renewable sources and to build new plants on hydro, solar and wind energy, said Markovic.
He stressed that the company is already working on the utilization of renewable energy resources, especially water resources.
EPS plans to build solar and wind power plants in Kostolac, EPS has identified this area as an important and established company for renewable sources within the company, which has the task to monitor the performance of existing renewable sources and to build new plants on hydro, solar and wind energy, said Markovic.
It is expected to occur expansion of renewable energy sources in Serbia because the Serbian government and the ministry made a series of laws that were created legal, technical and economic conditions for the utilization of renewable energy sources and created a whole environment for investment in this field, said Markovic .
He noted that EPS has a contract to purchase electricity from the 38 privileged producers of electricity out of renewable energy sources in Serbia, adding that it is expected from these sources to produce about 70 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) this year in the country.
Speaking of investing in the modernization of old plants, Markovic said that the EPS due to the revitalization of HPP Bajina Basta got new 52 MW of power from hydropower, which is considered a renewable energy, and it is also received an additional 30 megawatts because of the revitalization of the aggregate four and six in HPP “Djerdap I”.
He pointed out that HPP “Elektromorava” Cacak now has 17 instead of 12 megawatts of installed capacity, and that this plant will have additional 28 megawatts due to future revitalization of HPP “Zvornik”.
A three-day International conference on renewable energy, which will be held in the House of engineers and technicians, “Nikola Tesla” in Belgrade, aims to contribute to the promotion of scientific ideas and results of research, development and use of renewable electricity.
The organizers invite researchers, planners, economists and potential users of plants for electricity generation from renewable sources, to contribute their share to the faster development of such systems.
