Serbia’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Milan Bacevic stated on the occasion of celebration of Miners’ Day – 6 August that this ministry will do everything to improve the employment status of miners.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives of miners, Bacevic underlined that mining is a great development chance of Serbia and an industry with which Serbia can make considerable revenues.
He noted that there are many foreign companies that are interested in geological research and in making strategic partnership in Serbia, and added that significant reserves of gold and copper have been discovered in Timocka Krajina.
The Minister said that during the previous year, the Ministry issued a total of 51 permissions for conducting geological research of mineral raw materials and 78 permissions for hydro geological research.
According to him, the greatest interest was in the research of gold, lithium and boron, copper and accompanying metals, and financial investment in geological exploration amounted to €6.6 million.
Bacevic recalled that a draft of a new law on mining and geological research has been prepared, which provides for improving the environment for investment in Serbia in this field.
