Head of the project for the construction of TPP Kostolac coal-fired unit B3 Zeljko Lazovic said in an interview that the new unit should be put into operation in September next year.
Lazovic said that the project has entered the final stage, with more than 98 % of the equipment delivered to the construction site. The installation of the unit’s turbine is currently ongoing and the installation of the generator will soon follow.
He reminded that the new units will have installed capacity of 350 MW with efficiency level of 37.3 %. The expected annual electricity generation is between 2.2 and 2.5 TWh or about 7 % of annual production of state-owned power utility EPS. The project also envisages cutting sulfur dioxide emissions to 150 milligrams per cubic meter, nitrogen oxides will be lowered to 200 milligrams while it will release dust or fly ash in the amount of 10 milligrams per cubic meter.
Chinese CMEC is a main contractor in the project for the construction of the third unit at coal-fired thermal power plant Kostolac B, which is a part of a larger project for the modernization of Kostolac B at a total cost of some 712 million dollars. The construction of unit B3 will cost 520 million euros.
Implementation of the project for the modernization of TPP Kostolac B was officially launched in January 2016. In order to finance this project, state-owned power utility EPS obtained a preferential loan from Chinese Exim Bank. The maturity of the loan is 20 years, with a 7-years grace period and fixed interest of 2.5 %.
