Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said that the first power plant in Serbia which would use waste as fuel could be built in Pancevo in cooperation with Chinese partners.
The first step towards this goal is the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the financing and construction of power plants that would produce electricity from waste, which was signed during the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Serbia.
Minister antic explained that Pancevo was defined as the first larger municipality in which the Chinese partners will perform studies and analysis for the construction of such facilities. When asked when the start of the construction could be expected, he replied that it is crucial that Chinese partner should make a reliable feasibility study first in order to prove that the city of Pancevo could generate the necessary amount of waste required for stable operation of the plant. Antic said that this will be a pilot project, and if it proves to be reliable and profitable, similar facilities could be built in other cities in Serbia, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
