For the first time in Slovenia, Slovenian electricity supplier GEN-I will, start supplying consumers exclusively with electricity from environmentally friendly carbon-free sources as of 1 January 2021. In 2021, GEN-I, as the largest supplier in Slovenia, will supply its customers in the household sector and business customers with more than 3,150 million kWh of electricity.
The statement from the company said that the decision to supply all customers with carbon-free electricity, will reduce their carbon footprint by 1.65 million tons of CO2 per year compared to 2019. According to publicly available data, the annual carbon footprint in the average household is about 6 tons of CO2. With the company’s offer, carbon emissions will be reduced by an average of 2.5 tons per year or 40 % for all Slovenian households.
